Founded in 1993 by George Williams as the Southern Longhorns. The Oilers are one of the longest established Gridiron clubs in Australia and are known for their hardnose football and uncompromising attitude to the game. This is partly due to their blue collar background. The Oilers are named for the now closed down oil refinery that dominated the area at the time of inception. The Oilers have a long standing rivalry with league opponents the Eastside Razorbacks.
